Dunk'N Cheer Basketball Review

Dunk'N Cheer Basketball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our 8 month old loves to pull down on the hoop to hear the crowd cheer. He also likes pulling down the basketball on the side, twirling the little boy on the right and spinning the numbers on the top. Since he is presently a crawler / stander, these are the key features for him.
We love the feature that the hoop can be raised or dropped; it allows our son to play with the features he enjoys without falling over. We love to try to make baskets from across the room which makes him laugh, a little tough on the ego though.

Start with put-and-take fun as baby places balls into the basket for music and sounds -- with a BIG reward for every slam-dunk. As babies grow, adjust the four-position post so they can stand and make a basket. Push down on the hoop -- it's another slam-dunk, and the crowd cheers encouragement! Includes two soft basketballs and a wiggly-jiggly teammate! Requires three "AA" batteries, not included. Measures 11.5"L x 12.5"W x 21"H.

Discovery Toys HAMMER AWAY Review

Discovery Toys HAMMER AWAY

This toy was recommended by my daughter's music teacher. My daughter just turned 17 months old and LOVES this toy. She immediately began doing all the things that the instruction booklet said children would soon discover. She plays with it everyday for about 30 minutes at a time. It is a great teaching tool as my daughter counts the balls and we are now learning the colors. She has greatly improved her hand/eye coordination with the hammering. It is a fun toy. My 6 yr old niece came to visit and also loved playing with the toy. It is on my list of "favorite toys" for this age group.

Kickin Bobbin™ Gym Review

Kickin Bobbin™ Gym
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When my son kept kicking the snot out of the Happy Hippo baby gym Infantino Hippo Gym and sending the toys and everything shooting across the room, we wanted something more sturdy. He kicked the snot out of this one and it has lived to tell the tale. We didn't get the video of him kicking it (I wish we had), but here is one of him when he first sat up. We put the boppy behind him in case he fell, which he did... We love this, but just had to pack it up (he's 9 months now) because now he crawls and it got boring to him. I will say that the previous post had issues with their kid not being able to set the sounds off, well there are two sound settings. One for only hitting the nose and one for movement. If he had it set on the movement, anything would set it off, including kicking it. Have fun!!!!

Spin & Spill Cement Truck Review

Spin and Spill Cement Truck
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for my son when he was about 13 or 14 months old. He is now nearly 18 months old and still plays with it. What he likes most is to pull the lever to make the cement "container" spin. The balls inside roll around and rattle (the balls are hard plastic with beads inside, which makes the rattle). When he is finished playing, he tips the back to dump the balls, then he walks off.
This toy is VERY durable. My son has thrown this toy, dropped it, and sat on it. He has thrown the balls down a flight of wooden stairs about 100 times to hear them rattle as they bounce down. They have never cracked or broken. He has put the balls in the dogs' water dish overnight, and they have never leaked water inside. The balls have laid out in the yard and have not faded. In fact, these balls get played with ALL the time, every day.
My son likes to put his round Peek-a-Boo balls in the cement mixer, and they spin well. Also, big jingle bells that he got as toys at Christmas spin well. He learned that big square blocks do not spin well.
The only "negatives" I can think of are that the back tips kinda easily, so my son had to learn a soft touch not to make it tip accidentally. And the spinny thing on the top of the driver's cab holds no interest for him, but that could just be his age.
I'm glad we have this toy.

Fisher - Price Go Baby Go Bat and Wobble Penguin Review

Fisher - Price Go Baby Go Bat and Wobble Penguin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a compromise when I bought the Fisher-Price Crawl-Along Drum Roll for our daughter (Daddy picked the drum, mommy picked the penguin).
We have had no problems with this toy. You put in the 80's favorite size of batteries (C, nothing else but the Fisher-Price Open Top Take-Along Swing - Rainforest and an old boom box run on C batteries) and it's weighted fine. Maybe it didn't pop up because batteries weren't in there. The batteries add weight to make the whole thing work as intended.
It wasn't hard to blow up. The valve is more "industrial" than most valves, so I agree that it takes more than blowing up a small beach ball, but I see that as added quality and not a knock.
The only issue so far, is that at medium range, our daughter is scared of the blasted thing. Close up, she is fine with it. She "bats" it and no problem. Far away, daddy hits it and she laughs. But at two-ish feet, she screams in bloody murder at the scary attacking penguin with the creepy clown-like "huuuuh-huuuh-huuuh-uh-huh" that it makes when "batted."
And the last thing that is just my two cents, but oh well. There is no real educational value to this toy. It's fun. But really, I see it as beginning self-defense training. It says somewhere on the box that it teaches your kid to "bat." What the heck is "batting" but "hitting?" I'm all about the real toys and sick of this PC stuff, which is why I'll train her to kick the thing in a month from her Johnny Jump-Up. But whatever. I thought I'd just add that.

The Bat and Wobble Penguin is a fun blow-up toy that encourages baby's development. As baby bats at this adorable friend, he wobbles around and balls roll inside. Baby is rewarded with one of two fun tunes or four silly sound effects. He's on a weighted base so he'll never tip over, and he won't go far so baby will be encouraged to play again and again! Perfectly sized for sitting or standing babies. With an on/off switch. Requires two "C" batteries, not included. Measures 9.5"L x 9.5"W x 18"H.

Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Sit-To-Stand Giraffe Review

Fisher-Price Go Baby Go Sit-To-Stand Giraffe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 1-year-old daughter loves her ball popper toy, and when we received this as a gift, I thought this would be great. And she does enjoy it. It makes cute noises, and she loves to feed it the balls and watch them go around. She also likes to push the button on the giraffe's head to make him play sounds.
There are a few problems with it, though, causing me to rate it at 3 stars.
One is that the balls don't always go into the giraffe's mouth easily -- you have to get them just right, or they stick, and little baby hands don't always get them in there just right. This is frustrating for her.
Second, when she tries to pull up to standing on it, it tips. Not all the way over, and if she was pulling from her knees, it might not be a problem, but she's pulling from a seated position, and it keeps wanting to tip, which makes me nervous.
Thirdly, the balls don't always emerge fully from the tunnel, so they "disappear." At this age, she doesn't understand that sometimes she needs to fish the balls out, so I have to get them for her.
It's an entertaining toy, but I would prefer something that doesn't require so much adult intervention/supervision.

Fisher-Price Crawl-Along Drum Roll Review

Fisher-Price Crawl-Along Drum Roll
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my son who is just starting to sit up on his own for longer than 5 minutes and who likes to hit. When I put this in front of him, and the lights started flashing and the music began to play, his face turned to immediate concentration. This is the first time I've seen him look this way since he was trying to figure out his pesky hands and arms a couple of months ago. He loved it! For a parent who really loves music and wants to share that with their child, this is one of the more fun musical instrument toys out there for this age-range. I know he doesn't quite get what he's doing, but the joy on his face is enough for me!

Amazing Tracker Ball Maze Review

Amazing Tracker Ball Maze
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this for our son's first birthday. I had a similar toy as a kid and also had something like this, but plastic, for a 1 year old when I was a nanny. I really hesitated because the price is high for us but I'm so glad I bought this. It is very sturdy, the wood is nicely sanded and assembled. The only "assembly required" is to screw the base to the top, easy. The colorful rails on each ramp I think are plastic, but wood this thin would not be durable so I don't mind at all. The balls which come with the toy are a soft rubber so they don't make a horrendous racket. We also use the balls from another toy which are much louder going down which my son enjoys! I'm sure a lot of different balls would fit this toy which I think is great. It is also nice that the toy is 2-sided so when the neighbor kids come over to play two can play with it at one time without pushing and shoving.
Our son immediately got the hang of putting the balls in the top, then he figured out to place them on ramps half way down. It wasn't long before he could anticipate the ball path and grab one off while in motion. He's also learning about what things are round and will roll by sticking everything which will fit into the toy ;)
This toy could tip over on your little one if they pull too hard while learning to stand, but it's not heavy so I didn't worry about it. I love this and would highly recommend. The shipping was prompt as well.

HABA Cuddling Ball Review

HABA Cuddling Ball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I saw this on Amazon I thought it would be the perfect toy for my 5 month old. I was so disappointed when it arrived.
It's called the "Cuddling Ball" but there is nothing cuddly about it. It feels rough to the touch, is very hard (it does hurt if you get hit with it) and it is very heavy. My son got very excited when he saw it but as soon as he picked it up to try and play with it he stopped smiling and threw it away. I've tried to entice him to play with it since but he does NOT like it and I can't say I blame him.
While the end pieces (the blue flower and strawberry grabbers) are bright and interesting looking they are very hard to move around and so big that they don't twist or pull or do anything much to interest a baby past looking at it. The little stings that poke out of the holes also are so small in comparison to the rest of the ball they don't interest a baby either. If there were more stings, larger holes for exploratory fingers, if the ball was actually soft it would be a great toy but as it is I'm sorry I wasted money on it.

Fisher-Price Bop & Rock Musical Lion Review

Fisher-Price Bop and Rock Musical Lion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying that my 8-month-old loves this toy, but as the other reviewer stated, it continually falls over at the slightest touch. Considering that the toy comes with a plastic hammer with which to strike three balls and the rattles the lion holds, it makes for frustrating play (particularly for the adult that must constantly hold the toy to prevent it from toppling over). It seems like the toy was never tested with an actual infant because I discovered the fault within the first few minutes of play. It's disappointing that the "experts" at Fisher-Price would allow this toy to be marketed considering that it does NOT work as intended in the slightest. If my daughter didn't enjoy it so much, it certainly would be returned or in the trash. But as it stands, I'm doomed to balance the toy with one hand, while trying to play with her and help her replace the plastic balls with the other. I would not recommend this toy at all until Fisher-Price sees fit to either make the base heavier or wider to help off-set the imbalance.

Pounding ball play has never been this much fun! A cute lion character joins baby as they play with the 3 included balls and soft plastic hammer. Baby can easily load the balls on top of the holes in the lion's drum and pound them through, getting fun tunes, lights, SFX and surprise roll out action. For added fun baby can bat at the friendly lion and be rewarded with a fun tipping action, tunes, SFX and lights.

Fisher-Price Tippin Tiger Ball Toss Review

Fisher-Price Tippin Tiger Ball Toss
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really though my son was going to like this toy since he loves anything with balls, but I have to say that it was poorly made. When my son would drop the balls in to the basket sometimes they would just stay in the basket and not go anywhere, other times they would just roll down the hole with out even tipping it enough to set off the sensor for the light and music. For it to play music my son would have to tip it himself with his hands because the balls are not enough to do it. The music is the same song and saying all the time and just the nose lights up. My son played with balls alone more than he ever played with the actual toys. I would not recommend it.

When I first got this, I looked at all the hidden animal inserts and the elephant I couldn't tell what it was. It's the red one with the green trunk. It could use more expression. Weplay Hand & Foot Teether Review

Weplay Hand and Foot Teether
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My twins like both, though the hand is easier to hold and get into the mouth of a 5 m/o baby. These toys have a very pleasant scent and bright colors. I would rather buy two hands if there was a choice.Update !!!!
I did not look at the package at first and now I see that they are made of soft vinyl and so are of questionable safety.
The health risk in soft vinyl lies in a substance called di- isononyl phthalate (DINP) that makes soft vinyl soft. Laboratory tests on animals indicate that intense DINP exposure can cause damage to the kidneys and liver. These risks apply to young babies weighing less than 8 kilograms (17-18 pounds) and who might have "high oral contact" (three hours or more a day) with soft vinyl products.
You can read about the controversy surrounding vinyl here:
[...]
Taking them out of the cribs ASAP, even if the concerns are overblown, better be safe than sorry. On another teether from the same manufacturer -TEETHER BALL by ToysmithI see the writing: "Phthalate free", so they must be aware of the concern.
