Plan Toy Stacking Ring Review

I love Plan Toys. They use solid, sturdy wood instead of plastics, and all of their dyes are food-grade so you don't have to worry about your kid ingesting anything nasty if they chew on their toys.
This stacking ring set is great. Some people have complained that it's smaller than a lot of the other stacking ring sets out there, but i don't see that as a bad thing. Infant and toddler hands are pretty small, and these rings seem to fit them pretty well. My son actually refused to play with a stacking ring set at his grandparents' house because the big, puffy plastic rings were too big for him to hold.
The collapsible base thing is actually a bit silly. All it means is that instead of the column being fixed to the base, it's tied on with string. If you push it, it flexes a little.
And as for the red ball on top not screwing on, well, i'd like this toy less if it did. My son likes stacking the rings then upending the whole thing, which he wouldn't be able to do if it screwed on. Also, i doubt he'd be able to get the hang of screwing it on right away, so he wouldn't be able to put it on at all until he did. Sure, it would make storage a bit easier, but it's not really that hard to pick the whole thing up by the base instead of by the ball on the top.

Plan Toy Miracle Pounding Review

Okay, so pardon the above pun, but my son has loved the pounder since 6mo of age. We look for quality toys from SAFE companies. Plan Toys provides safe toys free from BPA, phthalates, or lead paint. The balls are stained, not painted, so they won't ever chip! We also look for toys that will grow with our child.
As an infant, he liked to mouth/teeth on the balls and mallet. When he started crawling, he had TONS of fun crawling after the balls on our hardwood floors. They were great crawling incentives. Then, he worked on dumping things out, and now, at 9.5 months, he is working on putting the balls back in. I know the Mallet will eventually double as a hammer for work projects, and someday, it will be great for teaching color sorting/cause and effect and coordination/motor skills. It will be a long time, I think, until he is able to use it for it's intended use. Before they are able to use the mallet to move the balls, the child can press the balls down to make the next one pop up.
It's wonderful! (And the balls fit other Plan ball toys, too.)

Plan Toy Tower Pounding Review

I'm impressed with this toy. It's all-wood construction. Very smooth, well-sanded, no sharp edges. Hit the rubber spot with the mallet, and the ball rises up and out of the tower, rolls around the tower on the colored "walls", and rolls back into the base of the tower, ready to be hit again. The very young will enjoy the repetition (no batteries required!). The slightly older (in our house, at least) enjoy testing various "tricks", such as what happens if I hit it harder? lighter? at the edge of the lever arm instead of on the red dot? etc. We found it to be enjoyable for all ages. I appreciate the solid construction. It's very sturdy, bottom-heavy (nice) and quite lovely wood grains, too.

Plan Toy Punch and Drop Review

Plan Toy Punch and Drop

Love love love love this toy. Santa brought it to my then 10-month-old son, and I thought he wouldn't really get into it until he was older. But within a couple of weeks, he was happily banging the balls down with the hammer, and putting them back into the holes. FANTASTIC for both gross and fine motor skills (takes a bit of aiming to get the ball back into the holes). What do I love about this toy?
1. Unlike flashy plastic toys, this actually keeps my son occupied for 30 minutes at a time. I can actually cook an entire meal because of this toy.
2. Extremely durable, fantastic craftsmanship. All wood, dovetailed construction and Plan Toys guarantees the safety of their toys. Unlike other drop and hammer toys, the balls are not plastic (generally, the plastic balls are squeezed through the holes). These balls are wooden and are kept up inside the holes by an additional gear-like piece, which the banging shifts until the balls fall through.
3. At first, I didn't like how there is not "catcher" for the balls when they roll out and go scattering across the kitchen floor, but well...he so loves this toy, he will crawl after the balls, bring them back and continue banging, which gives me even more time to maybe even whip up dessert. Sometimes they get lost under sofas and behind curtains, but oh well.
4. teaches cause and effect, tool usage, gross motor skills, aiming, colors. Gives him a real sense of accomplishment.
cons:
1. Not sure if ours is defective or if it's a design flaw, but with one of the holes, the ball gets wedged inside about 50% of the time and does not roll out. A little frustrating for him at first because he would think the ball had rolled off somewhere, but once he figured it out, it did add a new interesting twist to the puzzle for him.
2. No storage for the hammer. The Plan Toys miracle pounding toy has a neat little notch for the hammer, wish they had done the same here.
3. Love the wooden balls but man, they sure do some damage when thrown.

Great fun as children pound the balls until they drop and slide out.
Playtime Ideas:

Punch & Drop will help develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination & concentration. It also relieves stress.
When the balls have been hammered in all the way they roll back out, ready to start the fun all over again.
Pounding also helps children release tension and teaches them about disciplinary action.
