Harry Potter at the Yule Ball by Robert Tonner Review

Harry Potter at the Yule Ball by Robert Tonner

Tonner dolls are usually excellent products, created, assembled, and packed with the greatest care. This Harry Potter doll is another example of a stellar Tonner item--worth having if one is a serious fan of the HP series. The doll's face is an amazing reproduction of the young man who plays the famous boy wizard: Dan Radcliffe. A perfect rendering right down to the lighting scar, captivating eyes, and signature Potter eye glasses! The Yule Ball costume is well done, and the robe's soft material is absolutely fantastic. [We wished that Tonner had used that same material for the Prof. Snape doll's robe.]
There isn't a lot of "assembly" for this product; however, one does have to put the socks, shoes, robe, wand, and glasses on as the doll is packed with these items off, perhaps for protection. You have to be careful with the glasses because with much handling or moving they can slide off, endangering them to be squished or stepped on by mistake. Harry doll was much more forgiving of us than Snape doll was about his personal footwear. We had no problems putting Harry's socks and shoes on; the Professor doll though was a bit more particular about that process! Poor Severus! LOL The Trouble with Harry: Our biggest challenge with Harry doll was putting his tiny glasses on straight and not tussling his hair out of place. [But then Harry's hair was always a bit disheveled in the books' descriptions of him. :) ] Sounds odd that this would be tricky bit, but then big, stiff hands sometimes are awkward hands for delicate activities.
Harry's little wand fits into his wand hand via a hole / peg system, which when placed correctly gives him the appearance of truly gripping the wand. It is with this same peg hole that Harry doll can hold the Tonner Hedwig--which is sometimes how the dolls are illustrated though they are actually sold separately. (We bought Harry and Hedwig at the same time from the same seller.) Hedwig actually looks quite nice on Harry's hand, and this makes an excellent combination. You have to pose Harry's arm correctly though before inserting Hedwig into his hand. The bird is a bit heavy, so the pose has to accommodate this! :)
We are satisfied with our Tonner products, and we believe they are among are favorite Amazon purchases.

Harry Potter attends the Yule Ball wearing a white formal shirt and white bow tie, a formal vest and matching pants; all under a formal dress robe. He is also wearing shoes, socks, glasses, and carries his wand. Harry is poseable, made of hard plastic and smooth vinyl. His face is hand painted and his hair is rooted in fine saran fiber. He can be displayed on a custom stand (included).

Halo 3 Series 3 - Elite Combat Soldier Review

Halo 3 Series 3 - Elite Combat Soldier

I agree with everything Jonpaul from Oregon says.
This is the one we've all been waiting for - sculpting, details; everything is 100% on.
A couple of specifics to add - While the Elite is more "poseable" than the Arbiter, he's still at about the same level as the Brutes. This means no "crouch jump," or total upper body articulation, but who cares...
Also, the hands are fairly tailored for the enclosed plasma rifles, so certain weapons may prove awkward to hold. I noticed that each rifle's handle is curved to better accommodate its particular hand designation. Remove the pegs, grab a small tool for prying and apply some force. Both of mine proved pretty sturdy for the process.
All in all, a tremendous upgrade in comparison to other brands' Elites, and a sign of continuing quality from MacFarlane. Not a hint of disappointment.

Star Wars Basic Figure Force Unleashed Maris Brood Review

Star Wars Basic Figure Force Unleashed Maris Brood

The new Hasbro Maris Brood action figure was a must-grab when I spotted it on the shelf. Overall it's an eye-catching figure and the makers have done justice to her brooding appeal (pardon the pun). It's decently sculpted and painted.
The figure has a nice center of gravity so she stands up on her own well. Her arms articulate enough to allow her to hold her tofa-like lightsabers in various positions though unfortunately for Maris, they don't quite clear her elbows (ouch!). My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that she looks like she's frozen in a painful pose. I suppose it's supposed to enhance her feminine allure but I think she's going to require hip replacement surgery in her old age.
All said and done, I highly recommend the figure.
