Vtech Bugsby Reading System Book - Max and Ruby Review

The Bugsby reads the story nicely and it's good old Max and Ruby. Touching the pictures elicited sounds or phrases, some of them silly enough to get him laughing. The book is well used and is great for long car rides. Paper used for the book resists tearing and spills too. Kudos to Vtech.

(More customer reviews)A few things to know before you buy: 1. The screen is tiny, which may not bother your child, but you will not have an easy time learning how to use it yourself. Which brings me to... 2. It is not easy to use, don't expect your child to figure it out on their own! 3. The graphics are terrible, which, in addition to the tiny screen display makes learning to use it that much harder. 4. No color! 5. No backlight on the screen, at all! Because of all of this... #6. My daughter (5yrs + 4mo old) had not intrest in this toy at all. She is very bright and knows how to use our personal computer, that may be why this was so dissapointing to her. We are sending it back and she is not upset at all! There are many, much better products out there for learning games. Don't waste your money on this one! I should have just bought her a learning game for our computer, and that is probably what I will do to replace this gift for her.

When I grew up, girls played with dolls and tea sets while boys played with guns. Our mothers raised children and entertained from their kitchens while our fathers made the world safe for democracy from the business end of weaponry.
Today's kids grow up getting Latte's instead of ice cream cones as rewards and they watch their parents interact with digital intelligence. Can you wonder why giving one of them a toy computer keeps them busy and delighted for hours on end?
The unit is sturdy and attractive, especially for the feminine side. It has just enough variety of application to keep the user fascinated. Think about that. You have a much more sophisticated notebook, but how many applications do you actually use over and over again?
I made one mistake when I bought this for my granddaughter who is just beginning kindergarten. I should have bought two of them, because her three year old sister is way too left out when it's face to the screen time. This is a toy meant for personal interaction. It can't be shared like a television or a play station. The user will ignore all around them as she becomes engrossed (sound familiar?) So, if you have more than one preschooler, you're better off with more than one VTech Nitro.

Once they were on the bike is as expected, plasic, basic and durable. It is a little unstable and too light, so my 17 month old ends up walking around with it between his legs! The balls are useless- they make no noise and i don't think he even notices them. Wish i would have spent a little more on a durable metal trike..

The little balls are a perfect size for their small hands and they figured out how to put the balls in the bus really quickly. The songs are cute and the bus teaches colors and counting. It is durable, too. One kid has been known to stick his foot in and push around like it is a roller skate, and it has held up to that abuse. The bus is one of the favorite stand-outs from a LOT of toys they got for their birthday and Christmas. I would really recommend this toy and will probably buy it as a gift for other 1-year-olds in the future.

At first I was thinking that this may be to advanced for him, I was wrong. It took him a few try's but now he it using the tools and solving puzzles like it was second nature !!! He also will say words in Spanish to me. I love that he is always wanting to play and sing and do the individual games. He can get a little carless with his toy's, after all he is only three, but this cassette has held up very well. He love's this game and I like watching him play it. I will even join in with him from time to time. Although his Spanish is way better than mine.

I knew she would be a little young for it but decided anyway, thinking it would be a good way for her to have a comoputer, like mommy and also it would help with her ABC's and numbers. I was right on both. Although she really is too young to play the games by herself, she can work the music section. The other nice thing is that when you push a letter or number button, it says that letter/number, no matter what game or section is on. She does enjoy her computer and it does hold her attention for a while. As far as durability, it seems pretty good but I'm pretty careful to keep it up unless we're playing with it, just to make sure. I would overall recommend this for a 3 year or older, as the product also advises but am not sorry I got it for her now.

VTech Infant Learning Pull and Learn Car Carrier Review

(More customer reviews)Both our sons love this toy. They both have sensory processing problems and problems with fine motor control and the toy helps them with both. Our infant development specialist recommended it and it was an instant hit. The 3 yo loves to stack the cars on it and has fun imagining what the anilmal drivers are doing. Our 17 month old plays with it, too. He loves to push all the buttons and listen to the noises and sounds it makes. It is good for developing fine motor control as they play with all the pieces. It's also stimulating enough to keep their interest. Like I said, it was an instant hit and after two months they both still play with it frequently. It's durable, they haven't broken anything on it and our boys are rough on their toys. I highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)This is a fun game. My son (3 years old) loves it. He play with it often, pretty much every day. There isn't really much of an educational value to this game. It doesn't really teaches him much. It has really simple MATH(counting...i think) and SHAPES ... I believe that's all to it. I haven't sat through the whole game with him but from the family where I sit and him in his play room, he laughs out loud and giggles as he plays, I can hear. He makes Wubzy fall or bump into object where Wubzy isn't suppose to, things like that, that makes him enjoy the game so much.
For educational value...I wouldn't recommend it but just for fun, sure...your kids willl enjoy it.

Vtech Infant Learning Baby's Learning Laptop - Pink Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this as a Christmas gift for my then 9 month old daughter. She loved it instantly. Only problem is that my daughter does like to close the top because it seems so fun to her to do. But, she closes it with her other hand holding the bottom down for balance and easily smashes her little fingers. Very painful! My daughter doesn't cry about much, but she definitely cried real tears when her little fingers got smashed! I saw another review about this same problem before purchasing, but didn't think much of it. It's happened more than once and 3 months later my daughter still plays with it, but definitely doesn't have the same interest as she originally did. Overall I think it's an adorable concept and it is entertaining...but would be even better if they would fix it so that babies can't close it themselves.

Vtech Preschool Learning Alphabet Apple Review

(More customer reviews)My grandson is 5 and has autism. Teaching children with developmental delays is challenging, to say the least. One must get their attention, then keep it, then make the best use of it. This "laptop" does all this and more. My grandson has owned and loved his Alphabet Apple for a couple of years and he is the only child in his class who can tell you the sound of all the letters in the alphabet. So if you ask him, "what does man (house, canary, apple, anything-at-all) start with?" he can tell you in about one-fourth of a second - even words he's never heard before, so this is not memorization! His teacher is always calling him "smart boy" - music to my ears! To be fair, he has a lot of laptops that gloss over the letter sounds, but this is the one that he plays with the most. He doesn't use all the features, or even use some of them properly, but it is teaching him something and doing a good job of it. I'm sure a neurotypical child would get even more out of it. We don't let this one get lost in the closet because he is always asking for his Alphabet Apple. Worth it at twice the price.

Vtech Bugsby Reading System Pen and Starter Book Review

(More customer reviews)We first purchased the Tag for our (then) 5 year old son, but could not get the audio to download. After numerous emails to LeapFrog and many tries on several different (family & friends) computers, we just could not get it to work. Very disappointing as I felt that it was truly a quality product. The only book he can use with it is the one it came with.
Enter the Bugsby. Each book has it's own cartridge which has a place for storage inside the back cover. For that reason I gave it an extra star for "ease of use" (at least for us!). As long as you don't loose these you're good to go and can change out the cartridge for a new story as many times as you want(the Tag could only store 5 stories at a time, if you wanted to add more you add to remove another). The pen device works in the same manner as a Tag. It has a place for headphones to be plugged in, buttons to adjust the volume up and down and a "read the whole story" button.
As far as the book that comes with it goes, it's a simple story about how Bugsby, who has lost his glasses, searches within different stories (accompanied by his friends Josh and Hanna)to find them. Along the way it labels different animals, and includes "game" buttons on each page (with "stop", "repeat", "yes" and "no" buttons to be used with it). Games include things such as "Find the animal next to the squirrel", "What animal begins with this sound 'p'?", "Do these words have the same vowel sound, 'cup'/'mat'?" and have different levels. Touching in different areas of the book produce little silly sounds, characters saying a few phrases, and short songs. The back of the book includes a two page spread of the alphabet with games to go along with it and a "Story Writer" spread which allows the child to come up with several versions of a short story, changing the character, action and setting. The book has the option to read each individual page or the whole book. I would say the reading level is K-2 depending on the child.
Overall my son (and I) like this product. I don't think it offers quite as many games or levels of play as the Tag, and the way the narrator voice of the book says certain words sounds strange to me (the T's are overemphasized on certain words - other character voices are fine though). But considering the lower price and the fact that you don't have to worry about downloading anything, the Bugsby worked much better for us.
