Elec Arcade Review

First, let me say I am a big fan of K'Nex products. I own and have assembled most of the large sets (i.e. Big Ball Factory, original Roller Coaster Set, etc., etc.) and have always found their instructions to be easy to follow and remarkably accurate. However, this set, while fun and not overly difficult to assemble, was disappointing in the number of 'tweaks' it took to improve the functionality of the pinball game--for example, the lever that shoots the ball neededs minor modification to make it hit the ball better, and the launching chute needed modification to keep the ball from rolling back into the return chute. For a mid-aged child who has prior experience with K'Nex, they shouldn't have any problems figuring out how to make these improvements. For a first time builder, though, it might be frustrating. Also, when playing pinball with 2 players (taking turns) if you don't switch VERY quickly between the players, the game shuts off. It should have a longer delay to allow multiple players to alternate places and get back into the game. That being said, if you can overlook those minor flaws, it is fun to build and seems to be pretty sturdy. There are open holes in the board that allow one to customize the arcade and add various 'obstacles' for the balls to go through.
In sum, this isn't a bad set, but it just doesn't seem to be as well designed as most of the other K'Nex sets. And whatever you do, if you buy this set DON'T pay full price for it. Some places sell it for as much as $99, and my personal opinion (having now constructed it and used it) is that's nearly twice what it's honestly worth.

Electronic Bowlercade Review

This game is so much fun for people of all ages. It's not hard to put together, and it works really well. It takes 2 D batteries for the pin reset function, and some other batteries (I think AA) at the control pad at the end of the alley. The control pad turns the game on and off and is where you tell the game if you miss the pins and to move to the next frame. It has 6 pins that are attached to the top. The pins reset when you're finished with a frame, and this function has never jammed on me. If it ever does mess up, you have a reset pins button on the control pad to fix that. When you hit a strike, it yells, "Strike!" and with a spare, "You got the spare! Great roll!" It makes a sound each time you hit any pins. The game automatically keeps score for you. I think there are only about six frames, so the game isn't very long. I've only found two problems with this. First, it truly is 7 feet long. Sometimes it's hard to find that much space, and the space needs to be flat for the ball return to work. I have mine on a table, and I need to elevate the legs near the return a little to get the balls to roll all the way to the end of the alley. Second, the space needs to be permanent, because this would be a pain to assemble every time you want to play it. It's hard to move assembled (I tried and broke a small tab off near the ball return. I glued it and it still works).

Front Porch Classics Generic Circa Baseball Desktop Game Review

I ordered this because I liked the look, and thought it would be a neat addition to my game collection. To my delight, it also turns out to be great fun! It is basically a pinball style game, but even without the electronics and all, it is a joy to play. Have a friend who wants to play? It's easy to follow basic baseball rules and play through nine innings. Swing the bat to get a single, double, triple, home run, or even get out! Much like real baseball, you'll have to work to get some points on the board. As an added bonus, this game is easy to assemble and beautiful to behold. It stays out nicely, as a decorative piece for your game room or as an addition to any sports memorabilia collection. I'm not even a sports fan, and I love this game. It's a good return to simple fun, with value added craftsmanship.

Electronic Arcade Speedball Review

My five-year old loves to play skee-ball at the local arcade. I bought this for a Christmas present for him and our entire family loves to play. Everyone can compete. The lights and sounds make it very exciting. Sometimes the scoring mechanism fails to register the points scored. But it really isn't a big deal, since it's all in fun. My husband has become quite competitive with my son. I'm not really sure who enjoys this game more!
