First, let me say I am a big fan of K'Nex products. I own and have assembled most of the large sets (i.e. Big Ball Factory, original Roller Coaster Set, etc., etc.) and have always found their instructions to be easy to follow and remarkably accurate. However, this set, while fun and not overly difficult to assemble, was disappointing in the number of 'tweaks' it took to improve the functionality of the pinball game--for example, the lever that shoots the ball neededs minor modification to make it hit the ball better, and the launching chute needed modification to keep the ball from rolling back into the return chute. For a mid-aged child who has prior experience with K'Nex, they shouldn't have any problems figuring out how to make these improvements. For a first time builder, though, it might be frustrating. Also, when playing pinball with 2 players (taking turns) if you don't switch VERY quickly between the players, the game shuts off. It should have a longer delay to allow multiple players to alternate places and get back into the game. That being said, if you can overlook those minor flaws, it is fun to build and seems to be pretty sturdy. There are open holes in the board that allow one to customize the arcade and add various 'obstacles' for the balls to go through.
In sum, this isn't a bad set, but it just doesn't seem to be as well designed as most of the other K'Nex sets. And whatever you do, if you buy this set DON'T pay full price for it. Some places sell it for as much as $99, and my personal opinion (having now constructed it and used it) is that's nearly twice what it's honestly worth.
